New LIC chocolatier wants you to swallow their chocolate

14 Feb

Launched just 6 weeks ago, Swallow My Words is one of a kind company that gives consumers the power to express themselves… with chocolate. The company takes customization to a new level by engraving 4X4 chocolate slabs with your words.  Whether you’re saying “Thank you,” “I love you,” or “You Suck,” nothing gets your message across more deliciously than chocolate.

The woman behind it all – Min Kim – was destined to be a chocolatier, spending her early days in Brazil where she consumed sugar in its rawest form – sugar cane. Min has over 10 years of experience in the food industry, where she got her start studying culinary arts. She basesSwallow my Words on her slogan of “affordable luxury.” Though her chocolate may be rich, you don’t have to be to enjoy it!

Min and her team of “mad chocolatiers” work their magic in their chocolate lab here in Long Island City. The lab is an immaculate and modern kitchen also known as Min’s oasis – where jars of perfectly placed ingredients line the shelves and wonderful chocolate creations in all stages fill the space with a sweet aroma. Though the lab is not a storefront, the witty words displayed on the window are sure to stop you in your tracks while walking down 44th RD.

Swallow my words offers range of products that all come in a variety of exotic flavors. Currently they offer 14 types of chocolate slabs, 10 flavors of caramels, and 20 different truffles, as well as marshmallows.

Each of Min’s creations is tended to with the utmost care. All toppings are organic and made from scratch. The mad chocolatier uses ingredients in her products that are not typical of the pastry world. With curry truffles, and candied ginger chocolate slabs she attributes her culinary background as the inspiration for her unique candies. One of her best sellers is the Cereal Killa - orange balsamic caramel sauce, butter toasted pretzel crumbs, toasted corn flake crumbs, cap’n crunch cereal and  sweet dark chocolate (57% cacao). Another popular pick is the Startlet - roasted salted peanut butter caramel sauce, baked butter cracker crumbs and semi-dark chocolate. Swallowmywords.com offers a detailed list of the collection. Truffles and caramels are equally unique… with my personal favorite being the earl gray tea truffle…oh and the pumpkin…and strawberry balsamic…can’t forget pistachio…and of course lemon…okay maybe I really can’t pick just one.

Anyone find the text spacing in the first shot of chocolate really annoying?

  2. 47 February 14, 2013 at 12:05 pm #

Omg! I couldn’t finish my breakfast because go the text spacing!

  3. anon February 14, 2013 at 1:07 pm #

Do you mean the leading or kerning? I never eat improperly kerned chocolate.

  4. you're so right February 14, 2013 at 1:25 pm #

you could drive a goddam truck through space between the “V” and the “a”

  5. Anonymous February 14, 2013 at 2:48 pm #

Wow, this is hilarious! You guys have nothing better to do with your time but to look for irregular spacing?

    • you're so right February 14, 2013 at 3:42 pm #

some folks work with type all day. try it for 5-10 years and you’d see bad kerning everywhere. try being a hack photographer for 5-10 years. you’d spend all your time discussing hack photography

This person is not just selling chocolate, they are trying to create something pleasant and artistic.

If you care about these things and are not just buying a bar of chocolate, it’s quite unpleasant.

The site is really odd. Looks at those sample quotes……..

    CALL ME MAYBE.

    Ok, Maybe.

Have you guys tried the chocolates and caramel that they make?
I had a chance to sample their chocolates and was very impressed.

I certainly will and it looks tasty.

Looking at the storefront, she is pushing this words gimmick hard and that’s the point of the reaction.

To be fair it seems like it might be an english is a second language issue to me.

Even the storefront is oddly spaced and written.

  8. Anoneemuss February 15, 2013 at 9:52 am #

The “Got [ ] ?” meme is so old hat. It’s embarrassing that they used it on their storefront.

WHAT!??!?!?!?!… You people are a joke. You people are missing the entire point…

YOU with the damn spacing comment …(this will be good, you irritated me the most)… Are you going to eat the damn spaces??? That spaces bothers you so much that you will not even give this creation a taste then you can go and lick your own type writer / computer and eat your ink cartridges . Why are you on here making this comment?? LMAO…(((IS MY IRREGULAR SPACING IRRITATING YOU NOW???? lol))) Therefore, your comment is irrelevant. When I buy candy/food my first concern is how it’s made, not if the spaces between the letters printed on the chocolate is even space at exactly .2cm apart.

Oh WOW!!!!…these comments are borderline between stupidity and ignorant or possibly a mixture of both… It’s as if, Stupidity married Ignorant and had bastard children w/its mother, Inconsiderate. And those children are the writers of those irrelevant comments above… lol. I wonder if any of you ignorant people (oh wait, let me spell this out, b/c I KNOW for a fact you probably trying to GOOGLE what ignorant means right now b/c you’re that stupid… so here it is IGNORANT: Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular) out there that made those comments (especially the one regarding “English must be the second language”)would come back to check this again to see this comment. I HOPE SO, because you really need to read what I have to say before you go and PRETEND to be food critics on another food post…

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK… THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE A COMMENT… THINK TWICE AND MAKE SURE IT’S RELEVANT.

Comments for Min & the crew:: As for the Chocolate, I love chocolate of all shapes and sizes… so I ordered and tried. I was delightfully surprise at how wonderful and refreshing these new flavors and mixtures are. So NEW and creative. I was absolutely blown away by the great bold flavors and new mixture of ingredients. THE FLAVORS blend so well w/each other and complements one another. Personal best would have to be, “1 AM”. It’s on a sweeter note, but nevertheless, it’s super great because it’s all natural flavors… “Cereal Killer” is up there w/the WORLD’s most interesting blast of awesomeness.
Everyone from my Firm tasted this new invention and they are referring friends and families. So you haters out there can hate all you want, but I know my Firm, family and friends and soon the World has finally found the true chocolate master. Thank you for sharing your creation with us.

PS. I SAID WHAT NEEDED TO BE SAID BECAUSE IT IS UNJUST AND UNFAIR TO JUDGE AND COMMENT ON SOMETHING WHEN THEY HAVE YET TO TASTE THE PRODUCTS.

      • SO in LOve February 15, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

ok, so I tasted this awesome chocolate a few weeks ago at the sample give away and had to google it up. It’s pretty good. I was very shocked. My wife and kids are talking about it still. The taste, the cute saying that this company is offering is a work of character. I like some quotes but not all. I think it builds a view of reference of the creator/creators. I like it, it’s corky but it works. I would definitely pass the words around. In this economy, it takes creativity and skills like this to make it.
Hands down, Tamninhprincessjunior said it well. And I agree 100% with Tamninhprincessjunior. How could anyone make stupid comment about spacing when this is suppose to be about the chocolate and the new ingredients?? The words are added bonus to the taste, it’s a surprise behind the slab. It’s not a typed personal statement to your Medical School. HAHAHAHA!!!!! I highly doubt those people with stupid comments like text spacing know anything about Chocolate/FOOD.

ps. the person that comment on not able to finish his/her breakfast because of the text spacing, I was slightly upset that you didn’t die chocking instead. *sigh* bummer!! maybe next time you will do just that for us. lol.

Perhaps they should have “come out” to the neighborhood selling their quality not their kitsch. I for one LOVE chocolate and will absolutely give them a chance, in spite of the passe sales spin.

      • A February 15, 2013 at 4:49 pm #

I think it’s pretty obvious that you are somehow connected with the vendor in some way.

No one here has to think twice before they write a comment when most of the entire site and shop marquee is about one thing. Writing messages on chocolate, not the quality of the product.

You cannot possibly read the sample lines on the web site and think they are not odd or simply bad english.

As for the chocolate itself I look forward to trying it and it looks like from the comments and photos that it does not need a gimmick. Looks very tasty.

That doesn’t mean the other stuff is not worth mentioning.

Just because we do not like the gimmick and think it is poorly executed does not mean we would not think the chocolate is great and come back again and again.

Come on, this is NYC and LIC is full of some mediocre junk. We need to raise our standards here.

If this place is NYC world class quality then they will get my repeat business.

LMAO, this is absolutely the best example of a thread that I have ever see.

  10. anon February 16, 2013 at 5:55 pm #

Here is an egregious dangling modifier from the web site’s text:

“With sauces made in-house, mixed spices, baked crumbs, and seasoned nuts, you will most certainly be satisfied.”

  11. Doreen February 17, 2013 at 11:02 am #

I went there yesterday but they were closed. Can I assume they are not open on weekends?

It would be helpful to include the hours of operation.

    • Tamninhprincessjunior February 17, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

Doreen, if you have got words, please show and don’t tell. Or swallow them or something.

      Call me maybe
