No more mail on Saturdays

“Sorry, we’re closed on Saturdays”

By now you’ve probably heard about the US Postal Service’s plan on closing its delivery route on Saturdays starting August 1st. There’s still no word if you won’t be able to mail out from the post offices either.

Our LIC post office is notorious for their one-star rating on Yelp (though the same could probably be said to most post offices in NYC), which begs the question: How does this affect you?

If you want a good case study on inefficiency in the work place, look no further than government agencies. Can you say privatisation and remove them from the payroll of the tax payers? The incentive of upward mobility or the scare of being let go for not being at the top of their game would put some fire under some a**s, just like us in the private sector.

      Do your homework.

The USPS is NOT a government agency and its employees are not on the taxpayer payrolls. The government only makes the rules by which it operates, which is why it’s losing money.

That said, yes, going to the post office is a last resort. But so is going to the bank, the cable company, and don’t even get me started about going to the UPS or FedEx offices in Maspeth. And the last time I checked those are all private companies.

There’s nothing wrong with the Post Office. It’s just the idiotic requirement that they have to fund all their future retirees with each budget, something most private companies don’t have to do. If a private firm takes over the PO, we’ll be paying $10 to mail a letter.

It’s just a plan by the ‘powers that be’ to be able to track all your correspondence via FedEx or UPS or DHL. And to kill unions, wherever they may be.

Economic power is being concentrated by the few who seek to hold down the many, i.e. unions.
