Restaurant Week features only one Long Island City restaurant
23 Jan
With Restaurant Week well underway throughout NYC, we find it odd that only one Long Island City restaurant (Water’s Edge) has a 3 course low-priced menu. In fact, it’s the only restaurant in Queens!
We feel that with all of the new Manhattan-caliber restaurants in our neighborhood, perhaps a couple more should jump in the promotion next time around.
Thoughts?

Restaurant week has gone totally downhill and is really for tourists more than anything. Any good restaurant in Manhattan either doesn’t participate or only offers it for lunch. Even those that do give you a modified smaller menu which is usually disappointing.
It’s totally BS that we don’t have better dining deals in LIC as we aren’t even in Manhattan. Prices for restaurants are outrageous here. It wasn’t like this 5 years ago.
I actually think it would be silly for the LIC restaurants to participate. There aren’t too many restaurants in LIC where you can’t already get 3 courses for $38 or close to it.
I went to Restaurant Week years ago and quickly discovered that you got what you paid for. So as noted above, Restaurant Week is silly anyway. It’s hard not to be treated like a second-class citizen.
And by the way, what are “the new Manhattan-caliber restaurants?” I didn’t know Manhattan restaurants were inherently superior to those of Queens. Generally trendier, more crowded, and more expensive – definitely. Otherwise, that’s just more of that Queens inferiority complex showing.
One could argue that the food in Queens restaurants is generally better than that in Manhattan(note, not “the city” – it’s just another borough) restaurants. And since food does seem to be the main reason people eat out, perhaps Manhattan should aspire to add some Queens-caliber restaurants.
There is already a lot of value at most of the restaurants in LIC, and RW doesn’t offer much in the way of drawing traffic to the area. Perhaps owners can get together to start their own monthly event to draw traffic to the area as a group, which also could possibly draw media attention… something specific to LIC.
