PS 312 may not open by September

23 Jan

We are hearing through the grapevine that PS 312 may not be opening by September 2013.

You may remember that PS 312, which will be at 46-08 5th St. was supposed to relocate the already maxed PS 78′s students to a school that had more space and amenities like a gym and auditorium.

No word if there are any delays with HS 404 either.

What is the source of this information? The grapevine can be unreliable.

I just called Jimmy Van Bramer’s office. The School Construction Authority is saying they’re still on track but we need further assurances.

Guys, we all know that your blog is a labor of love but there is also something like your responsibilities as journalists, no matter whether you’re getting paid or not. Quoting the “grapevine” without describing the area of the source (“somebody at the DOE who doesn’t want to be quoted by name,” “a teacher at P.S. 78,” “a staff member at the councilman’s office,” “construction workers I overheard during their lunch break at Food Cellar,” “my wife’s drunk blind second cousin after claiming to read an early edition of the NY Times weekend edition”) is irresponsible. If you start or accelerate rumors in writing on your blog that can affect so many things (real estate values; people’s decision to move away or not to move to LIC) you should at least exhaust all reasonable means of verifying these rumors. In the existing form your post is unethical.

      Hello LIC Dad,

We got word from a few moms at LIC Kids who had approached the principal at PS78 and told them that “the new school would not be open by September”.

We cannot verify this at this moment, therefore we label it as a rumor (though a serious possibility).

We will keep you informed as we find out more.

      Thank you

      LIC Spot

Gastroenterologist would be the field that I don’t think interests me very much. The steidus, diagnosis, treatment, and disorders of the stomach and intestines is not something that I am completely grossed out by. I think the field I want to go back to is Orthopedics. I worked for an Orthopedic knee surgeon and loved it. I was the receptionist there but I was still allowed to go into the rooms and learn from the Medical Assistant and the Doctor. I would like to now go back as a Medical Assistant and Medical coder because I think with all the knowledge I have now it would help the patients more and this is exciting for me.
