Exclusive look at LIC’s newest restaurant “opendoor”
12 Dec
The restaurant scene has exploded in the last couple of years in Long Island City with more choices than ever on where to find great food. This evening we were invited for a quick preview of what’s to become Long Island City’s newest restaurant hot spot called “opendoor”.
The owner, Nick Guitart has built a good portion of the restaurant with his bare two hands using salvaged materials. But what struck me the most was his ode to the Pepsi Cola sign on the back wall of the restaurant:
So what can you expect? ”It’s a neighborhood saloon,” says Nick. ” American small plates, like tapas. We have cooks here, not chefs. In other words, we want our customers to be comfortable.” The food, drinks and prices will reflect that too, he says.
The restaurant seats 98 and should be opening in 1 to 3 weeks (we all know how timing with the health inspectors to liquor licenses work).
Are you dying to know where it is? 10-09 50th Ave. Between Vernon and Jackson.
And of course, we’ll bring you a preview of the menu, prices and more right before they open. Stay tuned!

great post! Looking forward to this place open!

It will be great if the food is good and the prices are even better.

How about a 10 cent wing night!?!? Ok…25 cents? We need a good place to get cheap wings.
Cheap wings= people drink more! You make the money off the drinks, not by charging $6-$10 for 8 wings like most places on Vernon.
Pretty much sums up LIC…..
Cheap wings = crappy bar
You make money off serving great food and a great beer selection.
Bad news…although I did grow up in Buffalo, I’m not doing wings, but I’ll make you a deal. You let me know when you’re showing up with the wings, I’ll bring the Frank’s Red and the bleu cheese and I’ll cook them up.

Cheap wings sound AWESOME. But then it turns into a frat house. We want GOOD cheap wings in a nice environment. How about cheap oysters too? How about cheap wine to go with it? Am I asking too much?
I like the way this guy thinks. Good wings and/or good oysters with wine sounds fantastic.
Anony….
Sory…no wings. I’ll get some oysters from time to time when I don’t have to pay a fortune for them…..working on the wine list right now….any favorites?

Can’t help but be unimpressed with the decor in the photos. I am hoping it is better in person.
Cosy hip warm inviting bars are on every corner in many areas of Brooklyn.
How do we always end up with the places with tiled floor and ikea light fixtures?
I’ll make you a deal….come by any time and take a second look. I made the light fixtures, the bar, the upholstery…it’s not a tiled floor, it’s stone. I’ll even go this far, I’ll bet you a $100 meal for two that the pictures didn’t do it justice.
(oh, and the light fixtures over the bar? Copper flower pots I found in a midtown flower shop turned upside down and put up with….yup, an ikea light fixture….but can you blame a guy for saving a buck?
