LIC real estate = Manhattan real estate

10 Aug

Well, it’s official (sorta)…LIC apartment rentals cost just as much (if not more!) than Manhattan apartments. Different news outlets have been covering this story in the last few weeks and looking at some of the prices at the new developments on Center Blvd, they’re pretty spot on.

However the biggest argument is that you get a plethora of amenities and the unreliability convenience of the 7 train next door. But one thing you don’t get is Manhattan.   There is nothing like living in Manhattan…or is there?

    more than $700??
I love this neighbourhood but the new condos are def not worth it. This does serve the brokers and the ones reselling but not the community. For over $700 there are nice neighbourhoods in Manhattan….

People always make the same mistake when comparing rents in LIC and Manhattan. You need to compare apples to apples, meaning you can’t compare a one-bedroom in LIC’s new rental buildings with a one-bedroom in a Manhattan walk-up building.

I would also like to see new construction in Manhattan that is selling at $700 psf or for that matter $900 psf. I guess you might find something in Harlem, but it could easily argued that Harlem is an equal or inferior location to LIC.

The quality of post-war condos that go up in LIC are garbage. In about a year they start leaking everywhere and begin to fall apart. Ok, yeah, awesome views (I live in one), but I’m thinking of moving into what I came to NYC to do…to LIVE in NYC. This neighborhood doesn’t offer a fraction of what Manhattan offers.

    Glen:
Sorry to hear that your condo is terrible but NOT all condos are like that in LIC, at least not mine…..A lots luxury condos in Manhattan even worse( they cost millions ) if you really know the market.
Don’t like LIC, please move out and LICer will be happy for you!

RepubLIC. Nobody would be happy to see Glen go.
Glen, I agree. The Postwar or better “lasy few years” condos are not worth the prices, just because the quality of the building and the quality of management is nowwhere near standard. Floors that crack ater 3 months, doors that are crooked? Really?!

Absolutely Anonymous. How can you expect any sort of building to be in a good shape when it goes up in less than 6 months?? I mean really…these are HIGH RISES and they are just being put together like Lego. I appreciate the modern architecture…but the quality SUCKS! Boooo!

Don’t like it? Move. Thousand of people disagree with you and are voting with their dollars. Their viewpoint is more valid than some no name on the internet.
