Gantry State Park North still closed

A few months back we heard from a reliable source that the north part of Gantry State Park was “definitely” going to open by Memorial Day. Unfortunately our source never mentioned which year because if you take a stroll out there, the fence is still up. I think we can all agree that we are quite anxious to get access to the Pepsi Cola sign (kids, please don’t throw stuff at it!), but more importantly access to the enormous lawn and magnificent view of the Queensboro Bridge (sorry, we are still refusing to call it the Ed Koch Bridge).
As the building developers put their final touches to the buildings (apparently that’s why it’s not open yet) we hope we’ll get access to this new section before the end of June (of THIS year, please).
In the meantime, I say we take bets on when it’s opening up. Check out this week’s Quick Poll!

The park looks completely safe to walk on. How difficult is it to open up the gates? I live at one of the high rises and I think I pay enough rent to deserve a larger waterfront. Open the gates already!
Be patient Phil…you have so much to be thankful for as it is. Though, I don’t know who you are.
The north side will open very soon.
What bothers me though are all the dog folks who in the morning or late night decide the rules don’t apply or can’t understand why dogs aren’t welcomed in the park.
80% of all dog owners are great, it’s the 20% that ruin it for everyone.
hopefully along with the park addition, we can get back those nice chairs and hammocks, and the part of the walkway that was burned can be repaired.
would also be nice to have park “rangers” doing their job and preventing future vandalism.
